The First “Run For Your Heart – Fireworks Day 5k/10k” on Saturday, July 9th
WHAT: Heart Disease is the #1 killer of men and women in our region. Jameson Hospital is one of only eight centers in the country to offer the full Dr. Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease. The lifestyle change program helps patients suffering from Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and other chronic conditions to learn how to treat, prevent and even reverse effects of their conditions through four core pillars: exercise, stress management, nutrition and group support.
The first-ever "Run For Your Heart 5k/10" is being held in the "Fireworks Capital of America" - New Castle, Pennsylvania - on the day of the city's Fireworks Festival, Saturday July 9th. Proceeds will benefit Jameson Hospital’s Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease as well as improvements for enhanced patient experiences at Jameson Hospital as sponsored by The Jameson Junior Guild, the hospital’s auxiliary.
WHO: Walkers and Runners of all ages – from high school students to senior citizens, amateur and local professional athletes; Participants of Jameson Hospital’s Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease – kicking off the event crossing the finish line of “The Ornish Mile”; Jameson Health System Physicians and Employees – role models of wellness in our community; Jameson Junior Guild Members
WHY: Capture the real-life stories, the passion behind not only the prevention but the “reversal” of heart disease. Interview Dean Ornish Program participants who have eliminated blood pressure, diabetes and other medications through success of the program. Witness members of our community challenge themselves for the sake of a statement of wellness and watch as they inspire healthy activity for their loved ones
