NEW VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION FOR JAMESON HOSPICE BEGINS OCTOBER 4th
New Castle, PA – September 19, 2011 – Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County is currently scheduling hospice volunteer training sessions for individuals interested in making a difference in the lives of others. The first class will begin Tuesday, October 4th. Flexible scheduling of classes is available following that date. Classes are held at Jameson Hospice located at the Jameson Hospital South Campus from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Jameson Hospice provides a special way of caring for terminally ill patients and their families. The emphasis is on comfort and palliative care with compassion and medical expertise to grant patients and their families peace of mind. A common misperception is that our patients lives are near their very end. Patients can receive hospice care for years – and some patients are discharged from hospice because their health improves!
Hospice volunteers can serve in many ways: by keeping the patient company, listening to patient concerns, providing support to family members - as well as providing clerical support, fundraising efforts, bereavement counseling and serving as a liaison with Jameson Hospice staff.
We currently have a primary need for volunteers to serve as respite care sitters with patients to grant their family members time to run errands or simply have an evening out. For information about how to become a Jameson Hospice volunteer and to register for training, contact the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator at 724-652-8847.
