Diagnostic Respiratory Services

Diagnostic Respiratory Services

Respiratory Services delivered at Jameson Hospital are comprised of a combination of diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments.

Arterial Blood Gases (ABG)
Arterial Blood Gases are performed on a scheduled basis for outpatients and are provided to inpatients as ordered. ABGs are used to evaluate blood oxygen levels and measure how well the lungs and heart perform gas exchange.

Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT)
Pulmonary Function tests are performed on a scheduled basis for outpatients and are provided to inpatients as ordered. Outpatients tests are scheduled and performed by the Respiratory staff Monday through Friday at the South Campus. PFTs are used to diagnose obstructive and restrictive airway disease, along with gas exchange abnormalities and lung volume abnormalities.

Electroencephalography (EEG)
EEG’s are scheduled and performed by the Respiratory staff on a scheduled basis for outpatients, Monday through Friday and inpatients tests are provided as ordered. EEGs are used to record the electrical activity of the brain. EEG’s are useful in ruling out seizures, tumors, headaches and strokes.

Electromyography/Nerve Conduction Studies (EMG/NCS)
EMG/
NCS are performed on a scheduled basis for inpatients and outpatients. Tests are done on Monday for outpatients and as needed for inpatients. EMG/NCS are useful in the diagnosis of nerve and muscle damage such as carpal tunnel syndrome and pinched nerves.

MSLTesting
MSL (Multi-Sleep Latency) testing is a "nap" test performed on patients to rule out narcolepsy, which is a condition marked by an uncontrollable desire for sleep or by sudden attacks of sleep. MSL testing is scheduled Sunday - Friday following an overnight sleep study..

Methacholine Chloride Challenge Testing
Methacholine Chloride Challenge testing is used to diagnose hyperactive airway disease in patients who have a chronic cough and shortness of breath with normal breathing tests. This is used to diagnose asthma and similar conditions.
