Jameson Rehabilitation Center

Rehabilitation Services

Jameson offers inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation therapy. Rehabilitation is restoring disabled individuals to their maximum potential: physical, mental, social, vocational and economic usefulness. Our approach to treatment is highly personalized to meet the specific needs of each patient.

Any person, who, by birth, illness, injury or emotional involvement is deprived of normal neuromuscular functions or the ability to hear or to communicate can benefit from our rehabilitation services.

Inpatient Rehabilitation Services
When our patients staying with us in the hospital need rehabilitation services, a therapist may visit you in your hospital room or you may go to rehabilitation therapy department on the 5th floor of the Jameson Hospital North Campus.

Outpatient Rehabilitation Services
Our outpatient rehabilitation services are performed at the Jameson Rehabilitation Center, a free-standing facility committed to the delivery of quality, cost-effective medical rehabilitation services for injured and disabled individuals.

The Jameson Rehabilitation Center is accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Medicare, the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and the Department of Labor/Industry.

Services Offered:
Physical Therapy (Adults & Children)
Physical Therapy is medically prescribed treatment that may utilize exercise, heat, water, electrical stimulation and ultrasound to relieve pain, improve circulation, promote healing, strengthen muscles and increase mobility. The Jameson Rehabilitations Center’s physical therapists assist and closely supervise patients as they use our full complement of state-of-the-art therapeutic technology to work toward recovery. Patients are encouraged to take an active role in setting the goals and expectations for their physical therapy programs.

Aquatic Rehabilitation
Jameson Rehabilitation Center offers the only aquatic rehabilitation program in our area. Our progressive and innovative aquatic rehabilitation program allows you to strengthen and heal with pain-free exercise and rehabilitation. Heated to a constant temperature, our in-ground pools are equipped with Jacuzzi jets and powerful Badu jets which create resistance pressure for optimum muscle strengthening.

Sports Medicine
Jameson Rehabilitation Center offers a comprehensive Sports Medicine Program to area athletes. Under the supervision of a physical therapist who works directly with our athletic trainers, our Sports Medicine Program includes pre-season screenings, injury evaluation, taping, rehabilitation and educational programs. Our trainers are on-site at the community’s local high school games and are present at all practices to assist with any injuries that occur. An added comfort is given to rehabilitating injured student athletes when they attend the Jameson Rehabilitation Center and work with their trainer who knows them, understands their injury and cares about getting them back on the field safely. Jameson Rehabilitation Center currently staffs trainers for Mohawk, Neshannock, and Union Area School Districts.

Jameson has recently partnered with NOGA Ambulance Service Inc. to introduce innovative athletic equipment new to the New Castle area to promote the safety of local high school student athletes. In seasons past, protocol for an injury at area high school football games called for the athlete to be carefully rolled onto a flat, hard-surface one-size-fits-all board to then be gingerly carried off the field by numerous trainers simultaneously securing the player’s neck. Now, injured athletes will be carried off the field on inflatable boards that form fit to each individual.

In addition, Jameson Rehabilitation Center and NOGA Ambulance Service Inc. convinced New Castle’s local school districts to purchase new helmets featuring pop-off facemasks that allow the trainers to administer CPR more quickly.  Previously, facemasks had to be broken and cut off of the player prior to initiating rescue techniques.  We are continually working to improve the safety of the student athletes in our community.

F.I.T. Program
The F.I.T. (Fitness in Training) program is a unique component of the continuum of care provided by our Physical Therapy Department. It is offered to individuals who have completed a physical therapy program, but continue to require a structured program to maintain the proper level of exercise and upper and lower body conditioning. The F.I.T. program is a self-directed exercise program that enables the individual to utilize select pieces of rehabilitation center equipment for the purpose of maintaining body strength and conditioning.

Occupational Therapy
Routine daily activities including dressing, preparing meals and enjoying leisure activities can present unique challenges to individuals with injuries or disabilities. Occupational Therapy services are geared to helping adults and children achieve functional retraining of muscles so that they can resume productive and fulfilling lifestyles. The Occupational Therapy program concentrates on: developing visual, perceptual and cognitive skills; transfer training (such as standing from a sitting position); improving range of motion and motor coordination; and other activities that will help enhance independence and self-care to strengthen daily living skills. Splinting services and appropriate training in adaptive equipment or devices, as required are also available.

Speech Therapy (Adults & Children)
The Jameson Rehabilitation Center offers speech therapy for difficulty with development of language, voice disorders, problems articulating sounds, stutter tendencies, Aphasia (difficulty with speech and language processes which often occurs as a result of a stroke), Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing liquids and/or solids) and impairments associated with disorders such as Autism. Our licensed speech pathologists assist patients in articulation, fluency, swallowing skills and cognitive rehabilitation therapies with the aim of regaining as normal a level of communication skills as is possible with a disability or following an illness, injury, or hearing loss which has affected these skills. Our speech pathologists also provide basic lip reading and signing instruction.

Specialized Pediatric Programs
We understand that children need special attention and have created a multidisciplinary team approach that utilizes state-of-the-art procedures and equipment appropriate for children. Your child’s team will consist of a physiatrist (a doctor of physical medicine), physical therapists, speech pathologists, audiologists and occupational therapists whose treatments and techniques are sensitive to particular needs of children.

Audiological Assessment & Aural Rehab
Audiological Assessments and treatment can be provided at the Jameson Rehabilitation Center for patients of all ages, from babies on up. Hearing deficits can stem from a variety of causes, congenital, age, illness, injury, or exposure to high-intensity noise. Regardless of the origin of the hearing deficiency, our state-licensed staff audiologist can assess the extent of the impairment and assist patients with remedial measures such as hearing aids. We are equipped to dispense, service, test and repair hearing aids on our premises. We also dispense a variety of devices and accessories for the hearing impaired such as alarm clocks, phone alert systems, closed caption decoders for televisions, and radio aids. Our audiologist is also available to provide onsite services to homebound patients and area work sites.

Occupational Medicine
Working in conjunction with our Work Health Department, Jameson Rehabilitation Center offers a full range of Occupational Medicine services to area employers which include: injury prevention programs, evaluation and treatment of work-related injuries and illnesses, functional capacity evaluations; physical therapy, rehabilitation services including hand therapy, follow-up services including vocational/psychological services, health and wellness programs, pre-employment examinations, breath alcohol testing (Certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation), substance testing and immunization services.

Hand Therapy
To serve the growing population of patients with hand-related injuries and illnesses, our occupational therapy professionals have the expertise to develop and monitor programs designed to meet those particular needs. Through the use of pain reduction and strengthening equipment, as well as the availability of splinting services, we provide for the special needs of these patients.

Social Services & Psychological Counseling
Our Rehabilitation Centers focus on the needs of the whole individual, not just his or her physical function. Social caseworkers and licensed psychologists are available to assist patients and their families with: questions and concerns they have about policies and procedures which may affect treatment, information about available programs and fees, and problems that may arise during treatment as well as providing post-therapy follow-up and referral services.

Information, Referral and Follow-up Services
Our Rehabilitation Center staff may provide patients and their families with information and referral to appropriate community-based health, welfare and related service agencies. When an individual needs assistance which falls outside of Jameson’s service areas, we can provide a referral and help make contact with the appropriate community agency.
