Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (Recovery Room)

Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (Recovery Room)

Immediately following surgery in the Operating Room, our patients recover in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), formerly known as the Recovery Room. One of three divisions of the Surgical Services Department, PACU is connected to the Surgical Suite (ORs) and the Same Day Surgery Unit. Outpatient surgeries return to Same Day Surgery following PACU care and inpatients or patients requiring an inpatient stay will arrive in their inpatient room on the 2nd or 3rd floor following their care in PACU

There are thirteen areas in the department, all visible from anywhere in the room to best care for our patients. Each area is equipped with two wall suctions, two oxygen outlets and a Hewlett Packard monitoring system and emergency call button. The monitoring system continuously monitors blood pressures, EKG and SA02 for adults, children and neonates. There are two Passport monitors with pressure lines and a central monitoring console that allows PACU staff to view hemodynamic parameters of patients in the Operating Room undergoing anesthesia.

All PACU staff are ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) Certified with critical care nursing experience.

You are welcomed to contact the Patient Care Manager of the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit with any questions.
