More on Mammograms...
Digital mammography is the most accurate imaging technology for early breast cancer detection. Because the technology is digital, the images can be immediately viewed on the computer monitor with a higher level of clarity for accurate reading and diagnosis. Digital mammography is performed both the Jameson Women’s Center located at the Jameson Hospital South Campus as well as in the Medical Imaging Department on the Ground Floor of the Jameson Hospital North Campus.
A mammogram should not be painful. It is important for you to communicate with your technologist to reposition and take breaks, if needed, to retrieve the best images with your comfort in mind.
It is recommended that beginning at the age of 40, women begin annual mammograms. If you have risk factors for breast cancer (family history, dense breast tissue, obesity, etc.), your doctor may recommend that you begin to receive mammogram studies at an earlier age. Breast cancer can occur genetically at ages as young as teens, 20s and 30s. It is important for you to receive annual breast exams as re commended by your physician to stay on top of early breast cancer diagnosis.
What is a Stereotactic Breast Biopsy?
If you receive a mammogram that requires further analysis, your doctor may request a biopsy of your breast for additional testing. Jameson offers the Stereotactic Breast Biopsy System. Stereotactic biopsies are image / mammography-guided biopsies where the specimine is extracted through a hollow needle. This is the most accurate and efficient technique requiring only a small incision minimizing discomfort. A local anesthetic is also used to provide a virtually pain-free experience. This is an outpatient procedure and with speedy recovery.

Patient Testimonials
"I just wanted let you know that the gals that took care of me were wonderful. Receptionist Patty; Technologists Dawn, Tammie, Lauren & Nikki; Tech Aide Sharlene and Dr. Gizienski. They were all very professional but yet on a personal level they made me feel so comfortable. I haven’t had a good experience at a doctor’s office in quite awhile so I definitely wanted to let you know that you have a very good staff working for you. This was my second visit to this particular area and it was a pleasant one. Thank you very much!"
“I would like you to know that I was the very first patient seen at the new Women's Center at the South Campus on Saturday, February 13th. It was a very helpful and comforting visit. I was impressed with all of the personnel, from the mammo techs to the aides and ultra sound techs, and especially Dr. G. They were all extremely comforting and kind and went out of their way to explain the procedures. I was lucky enough to have a good outcome, but I'm sure that given a different scenario, these caring women would have been a great comfort and source of information. Thank you for this addition to health care in New Castle.”

“I wanted to share with you a couple of thoughts from my visit on Saturday to Jameson's new Woman Care Center. I was there for my diagnostic mammogram. I thought it was a very warm, inviting atmosphere there. Everyone was very friendly from Ellen at the front desk to Sharlene, and Dawn who performed my mammogram. I have to say, it
was definitely one of the better mammograms I have had. I loved the waiting room, it is like sitting in someone's living room, very comfortable. Even the gown wasn't bad, I could wrap it around me. At the place I used to go, I wasn't lucky it covered me enough to walk in the hallway. That was another thing that was so nice was the privacy. Lastly, the Dr. was wonderful. She is a very caring person.”
“I AM WRITING THIS CORRESPONDENCE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE EXCELLENT CARE THAT I RECEIVED AT MY RECENT APPOINTMENT AT THE WOMEN'S HEALTH CENTER AT JAMESON -SOUTH CAMPUS. THE CARE WAS PROMPT, PROFESSIONAL, CARING AND COMPASSIONATE. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THEM TO OTHERS. KUDOS TO PATTY, ANGIE, DAWN, SHARLENE, KIM AND THE OTHERS IN MAMMO AND ULTRASOUND.”
“I just wanted to inform you that I had an ultrasound done on July 20th at Jameson South. My technologist was Becky. She was very informative and patient. When arriving I did not drink enough water to make my bladder completely full. She was very patient and expressed how it can take over an hour to become full, she gave me more water and asked me to come back in 30 minutes. She did not seem to be mad but more concerned that she wanted to get a good look at my cysts on a full bladder. I feel she went above and beyond and made me feel at ease. Thanks for good service.”
